TRI Austin developed ThermaSafe™ composite, a lightweight, durable composite material system that meets Fire, Smoke and Toxicity requirements for shipboard use. ThermaSafe™ composites are light weight, virtually maintenance free, and highly durable.
The objective of this effort was to demonstrate and test the viability of prototype composite berths and lockers for the COMNAVAIRLANT Shipboard Habitability Improvement program. The project conducted tests to determine that the composite berths meet OPNAVINST 9640.1a, and applicable mil-specifications for shock, smoke, fire, noise reduction, and vibration.
