Verification testing of  TRI Austin’s Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuit/Environmental Evaluation Chamber (PEM/EEC) were carried out in this project. The PEIM/EEC has automatic control of temperature cycling and humidity supporting sequential tests with temperature/humidity exposure at 130C/85% relative humidity and temperature cycling from -55 degrees C to 125 degrees C.

Application of bias voltage is an additional capability of the chamber. Long-term verification testing of the chamber was performed with plastic encapsulated microcircuits.  Additional exposures were added to the chamber and their performance verified, including in-situ functional testing of units under exposure within the chamber, automated control of various corrosive compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, nitrous oxide, and vapor suspensions of sodium chloride. Accelerated aging models were refined for investigation of the effects of exposure interactions. Products resulting from this research include PEM/EEC chambers and accelerated life test services.
